This hardcover book is square and tight. The blind stamp on the slate blue boards are crisp. This is wear to the points and edges, and a bit of suface cracking along the edges of the spine. The gilt on the spine is easily legible. The pages are clean, having no markings or folds. There is mild foxing throughout, but no more than would be expected. The front free end page has a prior owner plate, along with a prior bookseller plate. (The inside board has a previous name removed). There is a small tear on the free end page with no loss. BAL 508 with B&S monograming. This is a beautiful copy of the work of this South Carolina native. Washington Allston is often referred to as pivotal to early American arts.
