He wrote letters to Lincoln, Seward and Stanton about emancipation, observations on his travels to the South and more. Forbes was sent to England early in 1863 to buy ships for the Union. This copy belonged to the Massachusetts Commandery of the Loyal Legion. Edited by his daughter. Gilded page tops. Good+ copy of the first edition.
