Title: A Log of the Spanish Main
Publisher: Jo Mora, Jr., San Francisco
Publication Date: 1933
Book Condition: Very Good
Edition: First Edition.
Unpagingated but ca. 120 pages. The first book written and illustrated by the Uruguayan-American artist. A humorous about the sights passengers would see on the the South American cruises on the Grace Line between Seattle and New York. Many pages are left mostly blank to allow passengers to add their own comments. First edition (first printing). This is a very scarce example of a copy of the Log used by a Grace Line passenger. Mary McCormick, of San Francisco, took the S.S. Santa Paula from New York to San Francisco in May 1934. Ms. McCormick filled in about 20 pages of the journal and tipped in a number of small souvenirs. Unfortunately, Ms. McCormick was not especially interested in the sights and made no comments about the ports of call. She was, however, interested in the social life of the ship and laid in several passenger lists, eight menus, a handwritten party invitation, and made often snide comments in the Log about her fellow passengers: 'Bootlegger', 'Ugly', 'No attractive girls', 'Catholic', 'Sick looking.'.
