1st Printing. Signed. Unpaginated. Published in 2010. Rare Dennis Manarchy collectible set. Fine copies of "Metal" (Volume One) and "Metal 2: The Revenge of Christina" (Volume Two), signed by Dennis Manarchy on the latter. Collection of female and male nudes, presented as Artist Books. The first and only editions. Published in small and limited print runs as softcover originals only. There is no ISBN. The books are now rare. A brilliant production by Dennis Manarchy and Bill Sosin: Oversize-volume format. Bleed color photographs by Dennis Manarchy. There is no text. Printed on glossy stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ's, as issued. Presents Dennis Manarchy's "Metal". A collection of two inseparable volumes. Some of the most unusual nudes one is likely to see, here are (mostly) female and (some) male nudes, all of whose bodies are covered from shaved head to bare foot in metallic-silver paint. As his ongoing project, "American Portraits", clearly shows, Manarchy is vehemently opposed to contemporary digital technology. "American Portraits" are Manarchy's monumental images of ordinary Americans, taken using the largest working camera in the world (which Manarchy developed with a team of camera technician/experts, costing millions of dollars) and are reproduced in public sites throughout the United States as building-size icons. In "Metal", Manarchy goes beyond - and relegates to the ephemeral digital past - the miniature nude "selfies" that are now collected and saved on everyone's smartphone. All of his models are painted for real and in full, glistening on every page. The uncompromising demands of his approach are all in the service of his futuristic vision: All of the beautiful, body-perfect, painted-all-over nudes are wearing various fantasy-inspired objects, on their faces and bodies, inventively conceived and realized by Steve Erenberg. The face coverings are hyper-modern masks whereas the body attachments are state-of-the-art metal gadgets that weld together medical apparatus, vehicular parts, and sadomasochistic ritual props. As visual stimuli, these very painstakingly created, rehearsed, and produced images are striking yet also moving. By covering his naked models with paint then making them wear outlandish gadgets, Manarchy de-emphasizes the human body as mere Flesh and re-imagines it as Sublime Object. In effect, he is saying that in the 21st century, we are (or should be) human and alien at the same time, to ourselves and to each other. That he would make not just one but two volumes is proof not of passing fascination but pure obsession: These are Manarchy's ideal erotic objects. These are the people who turn him on, the women (and some men) he finds beautiful and wants to have sex with. At its best, "Metal" represents a new visual vocabulary for eroticism that is anti-porn and pro-art. Delete your crude selfies, please. An absolute "must-have" title for Dennis Manarchy collectors. This copy of "Metal 2" is very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on the last page by Dennis Manarchy. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. These titles, "Metal" and "Metal 2: The Revenge of Christina", are erotic art photography cult classics. As far as we know, this is the only set available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, pristine beauties. A rare set thus. Lavishly illustrated with bleed color plates. One of the most brilliant American artist/photographers of our time. A fine set. Bookseller Inventory # 19543
