Book Condition: Fine

Description:

Christie, Agatha. THE MOUSETRAP. A Play In Two Acts. London: Samuel French, (1954). First (Acting) Edition. A Fine fresh copy bound in blue cloth with gold lettering, still retaining its original glassine dustwrapper (light contact marks to upper board, bit of off-setting to front-free endpaper, a few tears and nicks to the fragile glassine). On the upper board, along with the title and Agatha Christie's name, is the date 25th November 1958. One of a very small number of copies personally bound at the request of Agatha Christie for presentation to members of the original cast and crew, to commemorate the 6th anniversary of the play's success. The Samuel French editions were only printed in paperback form, these splendid author-bound examples are the ideal exception. Two other copies are known to us. One presented to leading actor Richard Attenborough, the other to director Hubert Gregg. This copy is unsigned, appears fresh and untouched, and still bears its original glassine wrapper; one can only guess as to whether it was indeed a gift to a specific person or simply a leftover copy. In any case, the book is lovely and one couldn't find a better example of this Agatha Christie rarity. THE MOUSETRAP has been playing continuously in London's West End Theater District since 1952, an extraordinary theatrical feat, and is nearly as iconic to London's tourist scene as Big Ben or Buckingham Palace. It reached 25,000 performances in 2012 and tickets are still available!. Bookseller Inventory # 002060
