Description:

Vintage original 27 x 41" (68 x 102 cm.) rotogravure style one sheet poster, USA. Carole Lombard, Robert Montgomery. Gene Raymond, Jack Carson, Phillip Merivale, Lucile Watson, dir: Alfred Hitchcock; RKO. The only known example of this very unusual and rare poster. It features images of scenes and the film in production, including two photos with master Hitchcock at work. This was the one and only time Hitchcock made a straightforward comedy, one in the screwball genre. Not a typical Hitchcockian film, it nevertheless featured some very funny moments, as Hitch was truly a master of wit and comic timing, even in his most suspenseful works. A sophisticated married couple have numerous rules in their marriage, including being allowed to ask and having to truthfully answer a question of each other once a month. When asked if he would marry her again, the husband admits he misses his freedom. A loophole in the marriage law system comes to their attention and they find they were never legally married, causing all kinds of complications. It was Carole Lombard who talked Hitchcock into directing the film. She played a variety of pranks on him during filming and it is she who directed his cameo (asking him to do numerous takes), which in this case did not appear 'til nearly halfway through the film. "From the Mark H. Wolff collection". Folded, there is some fold wear, VERY GOOD. Bookseller Inventory # 10003
