Book Description Bobbs-Merrill, Indianapolis, 1930. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very good. First Edition. 323 pp, illustrated with b/w photos, map endpapers. Original rust cloth, no dust jacket. Boards lightly soiled, binding sound, contents unmarked. An engaging account of Dyott's perilous attempt to discover the fate of explorer Percy Fawcett, who vanished with his two companions in the Brazilian jungle in 1925. According to the jacket, the party "picked up Fawcett's trail at Bakari and followed it across the wilderness of central Brazil right into the heart of the Amazon forests. In rickety canoes made from the bark of forest trees, the rescure party made a perilous descent of treacherous rivers into the hidden strongholds of strange Indian tribes, and finally to the spot where the last act of Fawcett's mad drama took place." They did not, however, find the man himself. Bookseller Inventory # 14087

Book Description . Indianapolis, The Bobbs-Merrill Company, [1930], First edition., 1930. 8vo [23.5 x 16 cm]; 323 pp, frontis, plates from photos, endpaper maps showing author's route. original cloth, gilt spine title lettering, title lettering on cover in blind, two small newspaper clippings on Fawcett on endpaper, very slightly rubbed on outer edge, else near fine, sound and solid copy. The author's expedition was an attempt to find the British explorer, Colonel P. H. Fawcett and his companions, who had not been heard of for three years after having entered deep into the unexplored Amazon jungles of Brazil in search of lost Indian civilizations, ruined cities, women warriors, etc. Peter Fleming, in his book Brazilian Adventure, criticized Dyott for failing to find Fawcett, although Fleming was no more successful, and in fact adopted Dyott's theory. Grann in his recent The Lost City of Z, uncovered no further substantial information on the mystery than had Dyott. An interesting account of jungles, native peoples, nature, and unexplored territory. A picture of this book is available on request. Bookseller Inventory # A13385
