Engraving (c. 1689), c. 1715, Second state. This map was made by Thomas Holme, the personal surveyor of the Penns who designed Philadelphia. It shows the grants made by William Penn to his first settlers and the entire extent of settlement in Pennsylvania at the time. This map convinced Europeans to forsake the security of the homelands and venture to the New World. It is important because it notes the names of owners of land in Bucks, Chester and Philadelphia.
