Mimi Pinson had entered the French cultural lexicon through this 1845 story by Alfred de Musset as a fictional seamstress who sings away the sorrows of her grinding poverty. The story is told from the perspective of two medical students who are charmed when Mimi pawns her only dress to feed a hungry friend and then artfully manufactures a dress out of curtains to attend Mass. Mimi Pinson is associated with labour, bourgeois male desire, feminine self-sacrifice and innate fashion sense. The artwork by Dignimont briliantly expresses the theme. Half brown calf, gilt spine, raised bands, marbled end-papers. Limited to 3250 copies. This is copy #1678 Size: 7.5" x 9¾" 0.0. Bookseller Inventory # 267660
