Description:

Model Railroading with John Allen: Expanded Edition by Linn H. Westcott. Second printing without the errata page. This dramatic coffee-table book documents the construction and operation of John Allen's world-famous HO scale Gorre & Daphetid layouts, including the HOn3 Devil's Gulch & Helengon. Allen, who passed away in 1973, was one of the hobby's first acknowledged grand masters, and many of his concepts and techniques are in evidence in today's best model railroads. First published (softcover) in 1981 by Kalmbach Publishing Co., this new edition from Benchmark Publications is a sturdy, high-quality, thick-paper reproduction of the original, plus 16 new pages. The new material includes information and reproduction of John Allen's photographs for Pacific Fast Mail catalogs and advertisements, and a comprehensive listing of Allen's published articles and photographs from 1945 through 2007. Whether or not you are familiar with John Allen's work, this inspirational book is a great read. Contents: Foreword, pp. 2-3; Meet John Allen and his Gorre & Daphetid Railroad, pp. 4-17; The Main Line Through the Akinbaks, pp. 18-33; The First Gorre & Daphetid, pp. 34-51; Narrow Gauge and the Expanding G.D., pp. 52-73; Planning the Great Project, pp. 74-89; Building the Empire, pp. 90-105; Operating the G.D. Line, pp. 106-121; The G.D. Roster, pp. 122-133; The Wizard of Monterey, pp. 134-141; Epilogue, pp. 142-143; About the Author, pg. 144; Postscript (by Bob Hayden), pp. 145-160. Benchmark Publications, hardcover with dust jacket, 160 pages, 9.5 x 11.5 x .5 in., color photographs throughout. Bookseller Inventory # bmp1003
