The Roman poet and philiosopher's lasting work, On the Nature of Things, in Latin, finely bound. This variorum edition contains all the then-known variants of the texts, with notes by Gilbert Wakefield. It was part of a large series of Latin classics prepared originally for Louis, le Grand Dauphin, in the 17th century, and republished by A. J. Valpy in the early 19th century. Four volumes. Finely bound by Victoria (British Columbia) binder Courtland Benson in half tan morocco and a sturdy and attractive matching cloth. Red spine labels. The text block is lightly foxed throughout, as usual, with a neat oval library stamp on the title pages (no other library markings). A couple of gatherings are loose, but the text is complete. A lovely set. Bookseller Inventory # 49135
