This hardcover book is square and tight. The chocolate boards and spine have no wear to the tooling, and with pristine gilt. There is a pea-size chip to the cloth on the spine just under the title. There are two minor splits to the cloth on the front edge of the spine. The points are touched. The pages and endpages are clean, with no markings or folds. The foxing is within expected limits and is non-obtrusive to the text. No remainder mark. This is an antebellum diatribe arguing the inferiority of non-white races. It purports on the title page to be supported by teh investigations of: Champollion, Wilkinson, Rosellini, Van-Amringe, Gliddon, Young, Morton, Knox, Lawrence, Gen. J.H. Hammond, Murray, Smith, W. Gilmore Simms, English, Conrad, Elder, Prichard, Blumenbach, Cuvier, Brown, Le Vaillant, Carlyle, Cardinal Wiseman, Burckhardt, and Jefferson (although not all appear in the volume).
