Description:

7 x 12 inch handbill, printed on red paper. Chipping, fold lines, two small tears in top edge, repaired with tape on back. Still easily legible. Advertisement for a rally held by the Union Labor Party at Mannerbund Hall in San Francisco. The nominees of the party for various municipal offices are listed and scheduled to speak. The Union Labor Party was formed in San Francisco in 1901 after city police violently broke a union strike. It initially had great success, controlling much of City Hall for the next decade. The mayoral candidate listed on this handbill, P. H. McCarthy, was elected in 1909. After his defeat in 1911, the Union Labor Party faded. Bookseller Inventory # 016550
