Published in a small and limited print run as a softcover original only and as part of the prestigious and collectible "Photographers At Work" Series by The Smithsonian Institution. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Andrea Modica and Katy Homans: Regular-sized volume format. Pictorial softcovers with black titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs and text by Andrea Modica. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Andrea Modica's "Photographers At Work". Some of the finest portraits by the brilliant photographer on the American national pastime, baseball. Modica photographed each of her subjects "in situ", between breaks of a practice session or an actual game. Whether she intended it or not, the portraits have an appeal that is undeniable yet un-flamboyant and understated. These baseball players (they are all from the "farm teams" of the New York Yankees) are dashing, handsome, all-American men indeed, not model types but unself-conscious icons of masculinity. An artist who has explored nothing less than the mysteries of life, Andrea Modica deserves a much larger audience than the cult following she currently enjoys. A Guggenheim Fellow, Modica has been the subject of exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe. Her work is in the Permanent Collections of the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. An absolute "must-have" title for Andrea Modica collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen on the title page by Andrea Modica. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the First Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. 26 plates. One of the most brilliant American photographers of our time. A flawless copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ANDREA MODICA TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 156098290X.
