Description:

1st Printing. Signed. 16 pages. Published in 2013. Artist Book. The 83rd title in the now-legendary "One Picture Book" Series by Nazraeli Press, one of the most superb ongoing projects of contemporary art photography. Limited Edition of 500 numbered and signed copies. Accompanied by one tipped-in, original print by the artist/photographer (hence the Series' name). An elegant production by Chris Pichler: Small-size volume format. Titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Dan Solomon. Printed on pristine-white, archival stock paper to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Dan Solomon's "Witness". His very first contribution to the One Picture Book Series, a suite of historical "witness" photographs of the Kennedy assassination, digitally altered/blurred by the artist/photographer. They are accompanied by a black-and-white still (not blurred but visible from a different angle) of Kennedy at the very moment of his assassination. "Uses images of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy to explore the nature of photography and memory. By radically cropping stills from the Zapruder film and the Moorman Polaroid, Solomon isolates and de-contextualizes individuals and groups of figures observing the tragedy from the historical source material. Contemplating these ethereal figures invites many thoughts: How memories grow dim over time, the reliability of eyewitnesses, the impossibility of a camera capturing reality, and how everything adjusts, shifts, and changes over time" (Publisher's blurb). The book was originally intended for a late-2013 publication, to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of JFK. An absolute "must-have" title for Dan Solomon collectors. This copy is one of the Limited Edition, indicated as such in pencil on the Back Limitation Page. It comes with an original print that is very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on verso by Dan Solomon. This title is now collectible. This is one of very few copies of the Limited Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: The remaining copies from the publisher command $250. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce signed copy thus. 7 color plates, 1 original print. One of the most brilliant American photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ONE PICTURE BOOK TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 159005394X. Bookseller Inventory # 18625
