Edwards & Broughton Printing Co., NC. Fine work on the famous southerner who was Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court before the Civil War. He was part of the state’s Secession Convention in 1861 where he supported North Carolina leaving the Union. Most of Volume 3 and all of volume 4 cover the Civil War. Difficult set to find all 4 first edition volumes. A great addition to any Carolina library. Very good copy of the first edition. No dust jackets. All 4 volumes have minor edge wear. Volume 3 & 4’s gilded spine lettering is slightly faded; the North Carolina Seal on the front cover of all four volumes is bright. Volume 1 has a little wear on the front cover.
