With his brother Wilbur, made the first successful self-propelled airplane. The first flight with Orville at the controls lasted 12 seconds. Orville also developed the first wind tunnel (1901); discovered movable, vertical tail to avoid tailspins (1902); and became president of American Wright Co. after the death of his brother Wilbur in 1912. Partly printed document signed, 2 pages, 2«" x 4", overall 5" x 4". An official 1930 Sporting License issued by the National Aeronautic Association darkly signed as chairman of the Contest Committee under the auspices of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, United States License No. 112 is issued to Arthur J. Edwards born in Springfield, IL on Mar 10, 1888, giving him permission to participate in their air racing contests that year.
