231 p. This is the American edition of the author's edition, revised and enlarged, 1876, published by University Press, Cambridge, England. Rossetti (1830-1894) was an acclaimed poet who, after the death of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, was considered England's leading female poet. Rossetti was part of a family of scholars, poets, painters, and writers: father Gabriele, an Italian émigré; brothers Dante Gabriel and William Michael, and sister Maria Francesca. Christina was known for her romantic, devotional, and children's poetry. Best known perhaps is a long poem, Goblin Market, which has been interpreted and reinterpreted over the years from the feminist, Freudian, cautionary, and other viewpoints. This lovely volume includes the corpus of many of her books: Goblin Market, etc.; The Prince's Progress, Etc.; A Pageant and Other Poems; and Devotional Pieces. Tan cloth decorated hard cover, gilt titles, worn at head and foot of spine and lightly at outer corners; all edges gilt; frontispiece portrait of the author by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, with other drawings possibly by Dante. Inscription of Florence M. Greeley [?], 1901, on front free endpaper. Very near fine. Bookseller Inventory # literature
