About the Book

Bibliographic Details

Title: R.L. Polk & Co.'s Indianapolis City ...

Publisher: Indianapolis: R.L. Polk & Co., 1899

Publication Date: 1899

Binding: Hardcover

Description:

p. 2-1156 plus one or more unnumbered pages of advertising, with pages missing as follows: P. 1 seems to be glued to front board, since numbering begins at p. 2. A few loose single pages or pages bound together consist of 8 p. of advertising, including one with an illustration of the huge plant of the Dean Bros. Steam Pump Works; the volume's title page with a stamp of the New York Public Library on the reverse; Introduction to the Forty-fifth Vol. 1899; Table of Contents; Index to Advertisers; and alphabetical list of Indianapolis Street Railway Lines. The remainder of the volume (p. 69-1156) is sound except that the leaf 1155-1156 is loose and the Classified Business Directory ends with "Wire Works," so there may be a few more pages for the remaining W, X, Y, and Zs. The last page is an advertisement pasted to the back cover. Unfortunately, the map mentioned in the title is missing. There is advertising throughout, mostly of Indianapolis businesses, organizations, etc. There are many inserts: a sheet of information received too late for inclusion and advertising, including a four-color section on glossy paper, three of which, in full color, advertise the 3-Color Co. (formerly the Photo-Colortype), New York and Chicago, and the fourth, in two colors, advertises Columbian Engraving and Electrotyping of Chicago. Cover is paper over boards; the paper is rubbed and the boards are rubbed at the edges; the front and back hinges are broken, but the cover is attached; cloth spine, in addition to the printed publisher and title information, has "Indiana" and "IZ" printed in white ink and two small library labels; there are other minor library marks within the volume. Please inquire before ordering for shipping outside U.S. as the cost may be prohibitive. Bookseller Inventory # 9969
