In seventeenth-century England war was a man's business, but Lady Anne Fairfax was no ordinary woman. When her husband rode off to fight for his neighbors against King Charles, she rode with him. In this true story of the English Civil War, Sir Thomas Fairfax and his wife Anne and their little daughter Moll are most lovingly portrayed, yet not more so than the hills and woods, country towns and churches, customs and skills of seventeenth-century England. Miss Sutcliff Knows her countryside and writes of the battles fought as though she had been in them. Bookseller Inventory # 001386
