Circa 1840-1850. Original chapbook, once bound, with an illustration of a man reclining on a small hill on the front. One sheet of paper folded to make 8 pages, opened. 3 3/4 x 6 inches. Chapbooks were an early form of popular literature, originating in the 16th century and fading out of use by the mid-19th century. They were cheaply printed booklets that "chapmen" would sell door to door or at fairs to the common people. This one contains lyrics to seven popular songs of the day. Seller Inventory # 016278
