Edition: 1st Edition.

Description:

1st Printing. Signed. Unpaginated. Published in 1976. Collection of four photo-narratives, presented as an Artist Book. The first and only edition. Published in a tiny print run as a softcover original only by a small fine press. The First Edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Duane Michals and J+M Condon New York: Small-size volume format. Photographs and text by Duane Michals. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. In glassine integral DJ with blue titles printed on the cover and matching blue spine, as issued. Presents four epiphanic stories by Duane Michals: "Take One And See Mt. Fujiyama", "The Pleasures of The Glove", "The Enormous Mistake", and "Watching George Drink A Cup of Coffee". Like his other books, the Captions are reproductions of the artist/photographer's own unique handwriting, a graphic style that is now identified with him (and much copied by others). Each photograph is bordered in white and captioned with either a brief sentence, a poetic sigh, or a rhapsodic paragraph. The stories are about the tenderness and sweetness of homosexual (and heterosexual) love as well as the intimate relation between fantasy and reality. The melancholy as well as joyful aspects of love are evoked and celebrated, and they remain among the fullest, deepest, and also wittiest photo-narratives that Michals has ever conceived and realized. Michals is often regarded as a male nude photographer, which is erroneous because while he has photographed the masculine form, his real theme is the way our dreams and fantasies can transform the most ordinary moments of life into something sublime and extraordinary. An absolute "must-have" title for Duane Michals collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed, dated, and inscribed in black pen on the very first page by the artist/photographer: "For (recipient is named) in Santa Monica from Duane in New York OK! 1 June 1978". This title is an erotic art photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed and inscribed copy of the First Edition/First Printing available online and despite a slight imperfection (browning of the glassine cover's edges, found in all extant copies of the book) is still in especially fine condition: Every internal page is clean, crisp, and bright, a beauty. A rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest artist/photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER DUANE MICHALS TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 091661400X.
