The first of Asimov's series of Black Widower mystery story collections. In I. Asimov they were described in this way: 'The stories are entirely conversational. The six club members discuss matters in a quarrelsome, idiosyncratic way.' After the meal, a guest reveals a mystery that baffles the club members but is always sorted out by the waiter in the end (p. 373). The Black Widowers club is based on the Trapdoor Spiders, a New York social club of which Asimov was a longtime member. First edition (stated). A fine copy (a bit of foxing in the front gutter) in a fine dust jacket with a bit of fading at the spine, as usual. Uncommon in nice condition. This book comes from a large collection of Isaac Asimov first editions, including many signed and especially fine copies. Bookseller Inventory #
