Description:

Hardcover. 366 pages. Dimensions: 9.0in. x 6.0in. x 0.9in.TashiTashi is the story of a young girls love for an older man. The two are brought together by their common love for music, Richard being a composer, she a budding cellist. As she matures into young adulthood, her love for the reticent composer is continually tested by jealousy, physical separation, parental concern, and above all by his unconscious fear of rejection. Through it all she is sustained by support from her eccentric but compassionate grandfather who provides her with the ultimate key to unlocking her would-be lovers suppressed desire. The novel draws on a theme familiar to both literature aficionados and opera-goers, the theme of a flawed man redeemed by a womans love. Most-often associated with Richard Wagners operas, it tells of how an otherwise heroic figure, typically saddled with guilt or fear, is absolved from self-punishment by a woman whose love is deep and pure enough to transcend the most despicable of sins. About the Author: Paul Breer received his B.A. (1952) and Ph.D. (1960) from Harvard University. In subsequent years he taught or conducted research at the University of Wisconsin, Cornell University and Dartmouth Medical School. Between university appointments he conducted a private psychotherapy practice, first in Hanover, New Hampshire and later in Boston Mass. Since retiring he has spent most of his time writing books, essays and music. Some of his books explore questions of value (sociology) and free will (philosophy); others focus on music and the fine arts. His essays offer analyses of humanistic psychology and Eastern philosophy. Some of his musical compositions feature full orchestra or orchestra and chorus; others are written for smaller ensembles including classical guitar. Tashi represents Breer's most recent venture into literature, the previous being Illusions of the Heart, a book-length work consisting of two novellas exploring the world of internet romance.
