Telegram form, typed. In 1943, the New York Herald Tribune syndicated a series of war dispatches by John Steinbeck (see Goldstone and Payne's bibliography, C46). This is the original telegram form (sender's copy) in which the editor of the Seattle Times, Russell McGrath, initially accepts the syndication, for a fee of $600, and then rejects it. His initial offer is crossed out and replaced with 'Sorry.' Below that is typed his reason--that Steinbeck's articles weren't up to snuff. McGrath signs it at the bottom. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer ultimately ran the syndicated articles (posters they produced to promote it are relatively common). Folded twice; some ink offset, generally very good.
