About The Old Bookshelf

OUR SHOP The Old Bookshelf is a real, wee bricks and mortar shop in the Historic Town Centre of Campbeltown, Argyll. Whilst not a listed building, 8 Cross Street has been occupied by a shop for nearly 200 years. From 1907 until 1998 it was Kennedy's Ladies's Shoe Shop which sold ready and custom made footwear in the front, and in the back of the shop there were four cobblers cobbling. Some of the our shelves and our counter date back to the early 1900's. Although the space is small every inch is crammed to overflowing books and book related items. We hold about 20,000 books in the shop (of which more than 7,000 are on-line) and we add books daily. We are a happy little shop and we are always delighted to welcome visitors. We promise you the warmest of Scottish welcomes.
