Foreward; B/W Photographs; 52pp. Subtitled 'The Story of Calaveras Cement from 1925-1950', this company biography "is about miners and mining. It recounts the achievements of a man raised in the tradition of gold mining and himself a gold miner. It tells how he turned from a highly fruitful career in mining gold to an equally successful career in mining limestone from hills which a generation before had yielded fortunes in the yellow metal. It traces the history of a company which built a great industrial plant in those same hills to manufacture the most important of mineral construction materials-portland cement. Finally, it describes the part played by that cement in building an ever- expanding California" (from Foreward.) The company's product was used exclusively for the cement in the roadbed for Highway 40 (now Interstate 80) and in the construction of Marina Junior High School in San Francisco, airfield runways, Friant Dam and other California projects. Illustrated with numerous b/w photographs, including a 10 page "Plant Tour' at rear. A flawless copy. Scarce. #10011. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-4211361519
