Stephen Sondheim, James Lapine, & Hudson Talbott. INTO THE WOODS. New York: Crown, (1988). First Edition (so stated). A FINE copy of this deluxe edition in a FINE dust jacket (fresh as new, but two tiny chips to tip of spine and one tiny closed tear on the back panel.all very minor). INSCRIBED BY SONDHEIM on the verso of the front free endpaper to, presumably, either a friend or a fan. This unusual independent project conceived by Sondheim and Lapine and illustrated by Hudson Talbott (who has done work for the Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Opera, The Metropolitan Museum) is a wonderful adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS Broadway Musical which won three Tonys (among dozens of awards) and was recently adapted into film starring Meryl Streep. This is only the second signed/inscribed copy of this particular Sondheim scarcity that we have seen. It's a much larger and more attractive book that the published libretto of the same year (1988) and a must for any Sondheim collector. We've photographed only one of the illustrations but the book has dozen of equally amazing images. Bookseller Inventory # 002028
