This book is probably the most personal photo project undertaken by the Hamburgo Instead of focusing upon the 'many portraits of prominent celebrities that have earned him a significant measure of fame, Steffen ventures here upon a journey through his own life as a photographer. During his 13 years of successful freelance work for periodicals and advertising agencies, he has pursued his passion by photographing virtually everything he encounters -- a never-ending quest for the very special picture, the ultimate visual kick. Parts of My World is biographical, a record of very private moments, personal experiences and memories, and absurd situations. At the same time, however, the book provides a general survey of Alfred Steffen's work without venturing judgments of relative value. Which is more significant -- his snapshot of a donkey or the portrait of a movie star?
