Alfred Sisley (1839-99) was one of the greatest landscape painters of the nineteenth century and a leading figure in the Impressionist movement. His celebrated snow scenes of the Paris suburbs, his views of the flooded Seine at Pont-Marly and the colourful regattas on the Thames achieve a superb tonal balance and poetry of mood, while also giving a lively depiction of their subjects.
