Ernest Dowson was a major poet of the Victorian Decadent period. An alcoholic and severe depressive, he died in 1900 at the age of 32, having created much of his best work while suffering from tuberculosis. The most tragic of the "tragic generation," his life is a story of doomed love, and of the struggle to create beauty in the face of crippling adversity.
