John Wells (born 1907) was for many years a central figure in the group of St. Ives artists. Through his close friendship with Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth, Naum Gabo, Peter Lanyon, and others, he played a key role in establishing the town as a leading center for modern art during the postwar years.
