Synopsis:
The great Post-Impressionist artist Georges Seurat developed the technique known as Pointillism, a method of applying paint to a canvas by means of myriad tiny dots of color so that when seen from a distance, they blend to create a marvelous effect of shimmering light and color variations. The 40 full page colorplates in this volume reveal that Seurat did celebrate the themes favored by the Impressionists--bourgeois life and pleasures in the city or countryside, seashore views and summer landscapes, and scenes of cafı of circus entertainers--despite the fact that he had moved away from their casualness of composition. Included are Bathing at Asniıres and his masterpiece A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.
