Tailleur Du CoeurRebecca Horn
ISBN: 9783908247050
Publisher: Scalo Verlag Ac Publication Date: 1999 Binding: Hardcover Rebecca Horn is a multitalented artist whose kinetic sculptures, films and installations have contributed to her unique international reputation. After The Glance of Infinity, her full scale monograph published by Scalo in 1997, Tailleur du Coeur is a delicate little artist's book filled with highly poetic texts and watercolors. The short texts written by Rebecca Horn are lyrical and poetic, sharp and soft, mundane and symbolical at the same time. They all depict one special moment in time, and tell us stories of life and passion. The highly sensual watercolors turn this book into a valuable object d'art in its own right. In addition, the texts and the watercolors relate strongly to the artist's own vision of the politicizing -- and poeticizing -of the world. In this beautifully produced volume, everyday reality has found its place in another realm of stillness. |

Postconquest Coyoacan: Nahua-Spanish Relations in Central Mexico, 1519-1650Rebecca Horn
ISBN: 9780804727730
Publisher: Stanford Univ Pr Publication Date: 1998 Binding: Hardcover This book studies Nahuas and Spaniards in the central Mexican jurisdiction of Coyoacan from the Spanish conquest until 1650, crafting a multidimensional portrait of their relations in both institutional and informal settings. Initially, the primary site of Nahua-Spaniard contact was institutional, as Spanish authorities attempted to reshape local practices to fit their own notions and needs, changing regional states into Spanish municipalities and Christian parishes, local ruling bodies into town councils, and tribute goods into standardized payments in coin. These efforts were never entirely successful, as Nahuas only partially adjusted their own practices when faced with the changes initiated by the Spaniards. The author explores the ways in which new forms of government and economic customs developed, drawing on both Nahua and Spanish traditions. Nahua-Spanish contact was not limited to formal political and economic settings. The author describes the development of Spanish estates and the market economy, which opened up a new arena of cultural contact in the countryside. A growing number of Nahuas found themselves working for a Spanish landowner, acquiring a horse for peddling fruit from a local Spaniard, or selling land to a newly-arrived Spaniard. The Spanish land market altered Nahua land tenure and led to the loss of much Nahua land. The author demonstrates how Nahua practices came into play as they resorted to indigenous concepts of land tenure to justify the sale of land or of legal process to formalize it. In bringing Nahuas and Spaniards together in this study, the book explores the changing contours of their relationship in Central Mexico, emphasizing informalinterethnic contact in the making of both the Spanish colonial economy and postconquest Nahua society. |

Rebecca Horn: The Glance of InfinityRebecca Horn
ISBN: 9783931141660
Publisher: Distributed Art Pub Inc Publication Date: 1997 Binding: Hardcover Rebecca Horn is a multi-talented artist whose kinetic sculptures, films and installations have contributed to her unique international reputation. Her surreal installations and objects work as metaphors; often playfully erotic, they arouse curiousity and childlike amazement, yet also subconsciously evoke fear and uncertainty Glance of Infinity is a comprehensive survey of Rebecca Horn's work from 1970 up to the present day, including her most recently exhibited works at this year's Venice Biennale, for the new building of the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover, and in the Munster Skulptur Projekte in Munster 1997. This full scale monograph includes an interview with the artist, and essays by Brace W. Ferguson, Lynne Cooke, Doris von Drahten and Rebecca Horn, as well as a comprehensive index. Beautifully designed and printed, it constitutes an invaluable work of reference and presents a complete visual documentation of the development of one of our most important contemporary artists. |
