As one of the most inventive artists of the 20th century, Max Ernst (French, b. Germany, 1891-1976) led the Dada movement in his youth, and then went on to become one of the founding members of the Surrealist group in Paris. This catalogue examines over 180 of his works including paintings, drawings, sculptures and illustrated books, many of which were steeped in Freudian metaphors, private mythology, and childhood memories.
