Heroes

One of the new hopefuls for the TV winter season is a show called “Heroes.” It’s about everyday people from different walks in life who find they have super powers of one kind or another. One young Chinese man teleports from city to city and back and forth through time. Another paints future events. A teenage girl can withstand any life taking accident or malady, but never dies. And a young man emulates all of these heroes when he’s in their vicinity. A candidate for Governor can fly. It’s an interesting story line for someone like me, who as a kid, donned a towel (cape) and a yardstick (sword) and ran through my small New Brunswick town seeking out villains wherever they might be hiding.

Heroism comes in many forms, and we, the great unwashed, need not be so insecure as to spend our time wishing for greatness that we know will never come our way. It can, and it does, right here at AbeBooks.

I believe the employees in our Operations department are all heroes for their commitment and dedication. Adam, George, John, Antoinette, Mike, Darryl, Aaron, and Leigh all have indestructible costumes stored in the closet in the ground floor of Abe. Society and its microcultures need heroes. AbeBooks has approximately 100. Watch for them. They’re hard to miss.
