Apple Day
Did you know it is going to be Apple Day on Saturday in Cromford, Derbyshire, in the UK? No, neither did I until I spoke to David Mitchell from Scarthin Books earlier this week. David is the classic AbeBooks bookseller - fascinating books and an interesting life story too. After deciding he didn’t want to be a “junior beaucrat”, David has spent the past 32 years turning Cromford’s Scarthin Books into a bookselling force - offering new, secondhand and antiquarian books. After buying a house with an empty shop front, he filled the house, room-by-room, with books for sale until it was completely full and then he bought the house next door.
A Google search revealed there are lots of Apple Days around the world but the one in Cromford looks quintessentially English - so if you like apples and morris dancing then you know where to go.
