Suskind’s Perfume ‘Unfilmable’
I read with interest this article about the movie adaptation of Patrick Suskind’s Perfume. The movie was considered “unfilmable” due to the many and detailed descriptions of scent in the novel. These can’t be disregarded as they’re central to plot and characterization. Making sense of the sense of smell must be difficult, but no-one seems to be asking how the large orgy scene at the end of the story is being translated on to the silver screen.

I loved Perfume and agree, I am not entirely sure how they are going to pull off the intensity of smell in the book. (I’ve read that there will be lots of nose closeups).
