Times-Colonist Book Sale in . . . Snakeskin?

Snakeskin Thomas Moore book

My favourite day of the year, the Times-Colonist Book Sale, lived up to my expectations this weekend.  I bought about 25 books for around $50, ranging from classics like Mrs. Dalloway to best sellers like The Corrections to Meg Gardiner’s second novel, Mission Canyon (Stephen King has me interested now!) and books I hadn’t heard of before like I & Claudius: Travels with my Cat.  I also had one truly unique find: a copy of The Poetical Works of Thomas Moore bound in snakeskin.

Snakeskin?  I can barely believe it myself.  We featured animal-skin bound books during the Snakes on a Plane craze last summer, so I knew these books existed, but I was certainly awe-struck to find this one hiding in a box among other poetry books.  Now comes the research into finding more about it.

My local library has great used book sales. It’s good to know my neighbors are reading. The only question is how to find time to read the shelf of books I wind up bringing home each time.
