MC Beaton talks to AbeBooks

Mystery author MC Beaton, otherwise known as Marion Chesney, has been interviewed by AbeBooks. MC Beaton is the creator of two very popular series - Hamish Macbeth and Agatha Raisin. Her Agatha Raisin books dominated our bestseller list on AbeBooks.co.uk last year.

Here’s a taster….

“Readers of Agatha Raisin books come in all shapes and sizes and are usually amusing and intelligent,” MC Beaton explained. “I have a huge fan base in the United States. The only unfortunate thing about that is that American fans are apt to confuse me with Agatha and shout out requests like, ‘Show us your legs’ - Agatha is described as having good legs. And at the start of the series, two muscular Texan ladies practically assaulted me because I would not tell them whether Agatha was going to marry James Lacey (Agatha’s neighbour). Fortunately for me, readers often start with one book and go on to read the whole series.”

I am wondering why Ms. Chesney permitted the TV version of Hamish Macbeth to depart so dramatically from her wonderful series of books. The actor portraying Hamish is not the tall, gangly red-head of the novels and none of the wonderdul citizens of Lochdoubh appear in the tv series. Evan the dog is different.

If thre is an explanation, I would love to understand it.

    Thank you.
