Avid Reader Book Club vote

True Stort of Hansel and GretelOur last Avid Reader Book Club vote (which was also the first) was a great success. New votes were coming in right up until a few minutes before the vote closed, and we ended up with a tie between A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian and Alan Brennert’s Moloka’i. We read them both: Tractors generated a lot of discussion about family and The Sweet Hereaftertaking care of the elderly, and we unanimously loved Moloka’i. It’s now near the top of my list of favourites.

The next vote starts today and is open for one week. The picks are The True Story of Hansel and Gretel: A Novel of War and The Olive FarmSurvival by Louise Murphy; The Sweet Hereafter by Russell Banks; and The Olive Farm: A Memoir of Life, Love and Olive Oil by Carol Drinkwater. With these picks we see historical fiction vs. past bestseller (and drama) vs. travel memoir. There are only 4 votes so far with The Sweet Hereafter in the lead - it’ll be interesting to see how this changes over the next week.
