Defending the Internet

This morning (Monday) I was dismayed to see an article in The Times (of London) where major league authors Margaret Atwood and Kazuo Ishiguro said that the Internet was killing book browsing. The article showed a fundamental misunderstanding of the Web and grouped all the online booksellers and marketplaces together as ‘the Internet’ - a label that just doesn’t work when people go looking to blame someone for changes in the bookselling world.

Thank goodness for Michael Gove, a conservative MP and a sensible voice of reason, who has stoutly defended the Internet against such claims in Tuesday’s copy of The Times and come to the conclusion that the Web is ‘not guilty.’
