Michael Tolliver Lives
Tuesday is Michael Tolliver Day in San Francisco, reports the Chronicle. As many of you will know, Michael Tolliver is one of the key character’s in Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City series.
Maupin is releasing a new book called Michael Tolliver Lives… hence all the fuss in San Francisco. I watched one of the TV mini-series back in the 1980s and immediately started reading the novels - I thought they were fantastic. Considering that I was still at school in rural England at the time, these books were my first true introduction to the Gay culture.
“I wanted to illuminate the process of growing older as a gay man, and make it easier for people who think life is over,” Maupin says. “Gay men who are growing old are incredibly lucky to be here.”
