On The Road
The New York Times addresses the forthcoming 50th anniversary of On The Road with an article today - we’ve also been working on our own tribute to Jack Kerouac and you can expect to see something on the site later this month. I’ve learnt a lot of On The Road in the past two weeks and it’s remarkable that this book can still sell 100,000 copies a year.
Sadly, the NY Times article about Kerouac is as dull as ditch water - this one from The Observer is much better.
If you want to see ‘The Scroll’ - the single role of paper that Kerouac used to type out the novel during an intense three-week period of almost constant writing - then head to the author’s birthplace of Lowell, Massachusetts. The Scroll is owned by Robert Irsay, who also owns the Indianapolis Colts - he paid $2.3 million for it.
