Slow about Quick Books

I’m a bit slow on the uptake with this one.  Almost a year and a half slow or about 6 months slow depending on how you want to look at it.  On the BBC Web site, I’ve just discovered this year’s Quick Reads which were published on World Book Day, March 1, 2007.  Quick Reads in fact were started in 2006 by Tony Blair.  For those of you like me, for whom this is a new concept, what exactly are Quick Reads?  I think the explanation is best left to the Quick Reads Web site itself:

Quick Reads was launched by Prime Minister Tony Blair on World Book Day 2006 to provide fast-paced, bite-sized books by bestselling writers for emergent readers, anyone who had lost the reading habit or simply wanted a short, fast read.It was a remarkable collaboration between authors, publishers, book retailers, libraries, the education sector, and other partners and supporters.

What I happened upon on the BBC Web site was the BBC RaW Reader.  There you can read or listen to the first chapters of 2007’s Quick Read books.

I think these books are a great idea! Not only are they ideal for people who have difficulty with reading or who are developing or getting back into the habit of reading, they’re handy for everyone!  Do you ever find that you want, well, a quick read? Something to take for a weekend away or that doesn’t require too much of a “commitment”? A book that you can read when you feel pressed for time perhaps? I think these books would be ideal!  Just in case you’re as interested in finding copies as I am, here’s the list of Quick Reads for 2007:
