NBCC Recommended List

Continuing our fascination with year end lists – the NBCC (the National Book Critics Circle) have provided 15 recommended books from 2007 (5 fiction, 5 non-fiction and 5 poetry). They hope to keep this up as a monthly “Best Recommended” list starting January 2008.

The list is a nice change from the monthly bestseller list as it’s compiled from the nearly 800 members, former finalists and winners of the NBCC book prize – and the premise is ‘what book have you read that you truly loved’.

Michael — Thanks for mentioning Best Recommended, glad you like it. Just curious, are any of these books becoming collectible already?

    Cheers,

Hi John – I am in no way a book industry expert, nor a bookseller who would know such things.

I would suspect that collectible modern releases (first edition or otherwise) is highly speculative and volatile. It is dependent on so much – author popularity, book condition, signature, whims of the public etc. If you’re look for expert advice you could dig around the Avid Collector area of our site.

That being said I did few quick searches and found a number of high value versions of some of the titles:

    - Junot Diaz – signed copies for around $100

    - Michael Chabon – leather and signed

    and so on.

    Thanks.
