Writing contest for young people
Once again, AbeBooks.com has teamed up with The Claremont Review to support and sponsor the literacy magazine’s annual writing contest for young people. Based here in Victoria, The Claremont Review is run by a remarkable group of teachers who are dedicated to their students and to the written word. Each time I meet them I am blown away by their enthusiasm and commitment.
The contest - which has categories for short stories and poetry - attracts entrants from all over North America. Anyone from 13 to 19 years old can enter. Give it a go or tell someone who loves creative writing.
Last year Orca Books published a book called Naming the Baby, which features some of the best writing from the first 30 issues of the Claremont Review, and it’s well worth a read.
