Margaret Laurence’s The Stone Angel Made Into Movie
The list of openings at the movies this weekend include the moving Stone Angel starring academy award winning Ellen Burstyn. This film is the long awaited theatrical adaptation of Margaret Laurence’s best-loved novel. This story of an elderly woman with the majority of her life behind her, the character of the witty Hagar Shipley is one of the more endearing in Canadian literature. This film is being released a week before Laurence’s date of birth on July 18th. The popular Canadian novelist and feminist died in 1987.
