Poor Economics Make for Good Reading

Finding positivity in tough economic times, the Financial Times announced today the shortlist for the 2008 Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award. The award, which selects the best business themed book of the year, is still ironically filled with positive themed books such as William Bernstein’s A Splendid Exchange. Due to the delays involved of having to write and publish a book, it will probably be 2009 or 2010 before the nominations for this award include the mess that is the current economy. So, with no further ado, here is the shortlist, a selection of the best business books to remind us of sunnier economic days, just a short time ago:

  •  When Markets Collide by Mohammed El-Erian – the only book on this list quick enough to chronicle the current economic struggles
  • Remix by Lawrence Lessig
  • The Snowball by Alice Shroeder – the long awaited biography of Warren Buffet
