Artist Andrew Wyeth dead at 91

More sad news – famed American artist Andrew Wyeth has died this morning. Son of NC Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth is one of the greats. Lots of his work can be found in books and these editions can be super collectible. He also illustrated books – his first venture into book illustration was The Nubb in 1935 and it’s not easy to find copies of this juvenile novel.

Wyeth moved out of his father’s long shadow producing work that brought him international fame and fortune. In 2007, his painting “Ericksons” sold for a record $10.3 million at auction, making his work among the highest fetched by a living artist. He had the honor of having the first one-man show in the White House in 1970, with then President Richard Nixon toasting Wyeth at a dinner as the man “who has caught the heart of America.”
